December is one of the busiest and most exciting months as a facialist. Clients want to look and feel their best for the festive season, your diary fills quickly and the atmosphere is full of excitement. But with the pace of the month, it’s easy to feel overwhelmed, tired, or stretched thin if you don’t prepare yourself properly.
After 20 years in the industry and many Decembers under my belt, I’ve learned that protecting your energy is just as important as delivering exceptional treatments. When you feel organised and supported, you create a calmer, more uplifting experience for both you and your clients.
Here are some practical ways to navigate the festive rush with ease:
1. Prepare Your Space the Night Before
Taking a few minutes at the end of each day to reset your room makes such a difference. Restock your trolley, lay out products, tidy your workspace and have everything ready to go. December days are full, you’ll appreciate stepping into a calm, organised treatment room the next morning.
2. Stay on Top of Towels & Linens
It sounds simple, but it’s a game-changer. Ensure you have plenty of clean towels, blankets and mits ready for the next day. Knowing you have more than enough makes the day run smoothly.
3. Keep Your Body Fueled
Busy days can mean skipped breaks, so make things easy for yourself. Keep water within reach and have nourishing snacks prepared: nuts, fruit, protein bars, or anything that gives you steady energy. When you feel good, you perform at your best.
4. Be Clear on Your Cancellation Policy
December is prime time for late cancellations. Make sure clients are aware of your terms so you can protect your time. Clear communication now prevents uncomfortable conversations later.
5. Allow Breathing Space Between Clients
Even 15 minutes (ideally 30) can be enough to reset your room, sip some water and breathe. A small pause helps you stay grounded, present and consistent throughout the day.
6. Lean on Your Support System
This isn’t about having people help you in the salon—it’s about receiving support at home. Whether it’s help with school runs, meals, or errands, small acts of support outside of work take so much pressure off during the busiest weeks.
7. Make Time for Your Own Self-Care
Whether it’s a treatment, a walk, an early night, or a quiet cup of tea, little rituals help you recharge. You spend all month caring for others, your wellbeing matters, too.
8. Prioritise a Calm Mindset
December will always be busy, but you have the power to approach it with confidence and clarity. Focus on what you can control, take things step-by-step and remember that a calm therapist sets the tone for a calm treatment room.
Final Thoughts
With the right preparation and a little self-support, December can feel smooth, joyful and deeply rewarding. These small habits help you show up as your best self, for your clients, for your business and for your own wellbeing.
